Did the author portray the events faithfully?
The events on which the novel is based are told very accurately. The Holocaust is portrayed through the eyes of a young German boy. The author has done this to describe the Holocaust in a way that can be simply understood while being historically correct.
Everything presented in the novel is based on factual events and real-life accounts. The Germans’ idea of superiority over the rest of the world is evident through many characters. One example is where The Fury questions Gretel on why she would bother to speak French. The conditions of the Auschwitz Extermination Camp are described realistically. Even the shear hatred that the German Nazi’s had for Jews is uncensored, for example when Lieutenant Kurt beat the Jewish waiter Pavel for spilling his wine while everybody watched.
The book is so authentically written that it could easily be interpreted as a journal recorded in World War 2.
